Interior Inspo: The Houzz of 2018
A few weeks ago, I, along with several hundred other interior design fanatics, paid a visit to London's Soho to take part in a house tour. The house, at 19 Greek Street, was a six day pop up event, organised by interiors website Houzz, to showcase where interior design is headed this year.
The five story period townhouse had been completely transformed from a blank canvas, into a gorgeous family home. It had been designed from scratch by Houzz professionals and interior design agency Run For The Hills, and showcased lots of new home products by some fantastic interiors brands.
INTERIOR INSPO: THE HOUZZ OF 2018 - KITCHEN
The first floor kitchen was right up my street, being a big fan of monochrome, and especially dark cabinetry. You really can't go wrong with a black and white kitchen - it's far more interesting and dramatic than plain white or grey, but being such a classic combo it won't date like some of the other kitchen trends around at the moment. I also really liked the tile pattern, this is something we are seeing more and more in kitchens and bathrooms, rather than the traditional brick pattern.

Next to the kitchen was the living room, and again this had been designed exactly to my taste, with dark walls and floors, but big splashes of colour. People are often scared to use black on walls, but I love it. It's actually a really great neutral, and makes other colours really sing. Black gives much more depth and warmth than white or even a pale grey ever would. Houseplants also look really great against a black wall. Go and find a picture of plants against a black backdrop on Pinterest. How good?! The sofa was a magnificent addition, the orange really pops against the dark wall, and velvet really is the material of 2018. If you're in the market for a new sofa this year, I recommend a velvet one!
INTERIOR INSPO: THE HOUZZ OF 2018 - BEDROOM

Up a flight of stairs was the master bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom was a master class in hygge, with warm colours and gorgeous textures. The leather headboard was a nice touch, giving the design a bit of edge, and the heather colour on the wall was a nice take on the Pantone colour of 2018, purple.

The bathroom ticked all kinds of interior porn boxes, with the marble wall and floors, the ever so fashionable Crittal look screen and black shower. Monochrome in bathrooms, like kitchens, is an absolute design classic, but the marble adds a luxe feel and the black gives an industrial edge which works so well in a bathroom.

Up one more flight of stairs and there was my favourite room, the kid's bedroom/playroom. Kid's rooms can often look a bit twee, but this was done perfectly, looking very stylish but also very fun. Using paint to create interest with murals on walls is a great thing to do in a kid's room, and here Houzz had taken this idea but used wallpaper to create the mountain shapes on the walls. The light fitting was absolutely stunning and stopped the room looking too kiddy with all the small furniture!

On the other side of the room was some really excellent wallpaper featuring animals - again a classic in a kid's room, but again with some very stylish furniture, including the gorgeous danish style armchair giving it a smart, design led look, rather than twee cutesy one.

I really love a house tour, and this pop up event by Houzz was really enjoyable. I'd love to see other companies do this sort of thing. Apart from the Ideal Home Show at London Olympia, and the Living Etc House Tours (locations vary) there aren't many house tour events purely focusing on interior design, and it's a great way for brands to get their products in front of potential customers.
